Atitlán Sin Basura: Impact Report

Cleaning Volcano Atitlan
The Trail Doesn't Clean Itself

At the base of Volcán Atitlán, the landscape that draws hundreds of visitors every year has been quietly carrying something else: years of waste accumulated along the trail, at the campsites, and all the way up to the summit.

On April 25, 2026, Ati Adventures climbed up to do something about it. Alongside park rangers, local guides, and volunteers from Santiago Atitlán, a team of 17 people covered every zone of the volcano, bags in hand. By the end of the day, we removed 173.82 kilograms (383 lbs) of waste, nearly half of it recyclable and delivered directly to the Atitlán Recicla collection center.

Conservation is one of Ati Adventures' core pillars. This cleanup is a first step, and we hope it's the first of many.
