Quetzalio Waterfall Hike

Overview

Experience a half-day hike through natural wonders and abundant wildlife in the unique cloud forest of Santiago Atitlán where the national bird the Resplendent Quetzal nests. This morning experience will take you to a lush waterfall immersed in the wildest parts of Atitlan. This adventure is a unique gem for intermediate hikers. The adventure will take you through an ancestral trail with unique biodiversity, you will immerse yourself in the largest forested park around Lake Atitlán, an ecosystem of endemic flora and fauna of Atitlan.

  • Hike Duration: 5  hours (1.5 down and 2 up). 
  • Total Duration: Half day activity.

Please bring:

  • A small backpack to carry your things and lunch package. 
  • Comfortable hiking clothes (long sleeve and quick dry recommended) 
  • Hiking boots or shoes, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and a buff to protect your neck
  • A towel and bathing suite (if you wish to get in the waterfall). 
  • Snacks and water (2lt recommended).

Itinerary

8:00 am: we pick you up from your hotel or anywhere in Santiago Atitlan to make way to the trailhead. We will be riding in the back of a pick up truck, so make sure to wear your warm jacket for this 15-20min ride. 

8:00am-10:00am: We begin the 2  hour hike. The trail will be downhill for the first part until we reach our destination,  and it’s a well maintained path that has certain segments that can be a little steep and humid. 

11:00am-12:00pm: We enjoy the view and waterfall, optional dip in the pond, while we enjoy a warm coffee or tea and our lunches, before starting our return.  

12:00pm – 2:00pm: We begin our hike back. Now, we will go uphill back to the trailhead where our pick up truck will be waiting for us to get back to Santiago Atitlan and the end of our adventure.
